Forest Bailey’s Head Space has been designed with one goal: to be the best freestyle board you can strap into. Equally at home in the park as on the streets, this performance-focused board combines advanced design and construction with classic freestyle board thinking to deliver a ride that lets you push your riding to new heights. Built around a fully balanced twin tip shape, it features low profile blunt tip and tail. Designed to lower weight at the tips, it gives the board a controllable and predictable feel underfoot, ensuring that no matter how technical you get, you’re always in control. To give the Head Space even more of a balanced feeling, it features an asymmetric sidecut. This sidecut balances out the energy needed to drive the toeside edge and the less efficient heelside edge. By increasing the depth of the sidecut on the heel edge, you offset that inefficiency and give the board a more balanced feel edge to edge. Now to ensure the Head Space works equally well away from the park, its versatile C3 camber and grippy Magne Traction edges deliver a level of all-terrain performance you wouldn’t expect from such a park focussed board. Save money by partnering the Head Space with its matching Forest Bailey Bent-Metal binding.
Rider Style
The Head Space is perfect for experienced to advanced riders who want a high-performing park-inspired freestyle board that can take on the whole mountain.
Shape Overview: Twin
The Head Space is built around a blunt-tipped versatile twin chassis that has been specially designed to reduce weight at the tips. Cutting tip weight to a minimum reduces the board’s swing weight. The lower the swing weight, the more control you have when spinning as you cut down the inertia at the tips. To give the Head Space even more of a balanced ride, Gnu added an asymmetric sidecut. Asymmetric sidecuts work by placing a deeper sidecut on the heelside edge. This deeper sidecut gives a more reactive feeling and offsets the body’s inability to drive the heelside edge as hard as the toeside. On a toeside turn, you bend the knees into the edge to power up the sidecut; because your knees don’t bend backwards, you cant drive the heelside the same. Making it deeper means it’s more reactive, so it balances out the ride rather than having one edge that is quick and one that is slow. Now, for what is fundamentally a freestyle board, one of the things that you’ll notice when you ride the Head Space is just how solid and stable it is on edge. This stability is down to the Magne Traction sidecut, which places seven strategically located edge serrations along the length of the sidecut. These add extra traction points, ensuring you get unrivalled edge hold and control in even the iciest conditions.
Profile: C3 Camber
This versatile camber is engineered for high-performance snowboarding. Very mild rocker between your feet and powerful cambers to the tips and tails. Mild rocker balances pressure distribution tip to tail, eliminating the ‘dead space’ between your feet, maximising edge hold, pop, power and precision with the benefit of a little extra float and carve when you need it.
- Efficient tip to tail edge pressure distribution and control
- Central micro rocker builds in carve, edge hold and float
- Overall tip to tail camber builds in pop, power and stability
Construction
Internally the Head Space is built around Gnu’s G-Lite-2 construction. Heading this up is the lightweight G-Lite 2 core. Manufactured from 70% aspen and 30% paulownia, it delivers the perfect combination of poppy flex and lightweight. Gnu adds structural layers formed from a combination of torsionally stiff tri-ax glass and playful bi-ax glass. These layers allow the designers to dial in the perfect balance of torsional flex with a poppy and dynamic ride.
Base: Sintered
The High-Performance Sintered base delivers a super-fast glide across all conditions and underlines the Head Space’s quality credentials.
