The Essential Service is an easy-going resort ripper that is equally at home carving up groomers blasting through powder and side hits or hitting kickers and rails in the park. Built around a ride-anything directional twin shape with 1.27cm of setback, this versatile board is the perfect choice for anyone who wants a complete quiver in one board. Its blunt-tipped nose and tail shape give the ES a balanced overall ride, so when you hit up the park, it gives you a predictable underfoot feel and more controllable spins. However, even though you’ve got blunt tips, you still get a fuller profile nose and tail, so the ES can blast through the chop and handle powder easily. Underpinning the ES versatile nature even further is the combination of Gnu’s all-terrain Hybrid C2° profile with Magne-Traction sidecut. This hybrid camber profile features a playful and floaty overall rocker profile with powerful camber zones located under the feet. This ride anything profile delivers a playful and floaty ride without compromising performance through the turn. That turning performance is then further enhanced with the grippy Magne-Traction sidecut. Finally, the ES high-performance G-Lite-2 construction delivers the optimum balance of performance and feel, making the ES one of the best riding daily drivers you can strap into.
Rider Style
The Essential Service is the perfect board for riders of all ability levels who want a high-performing daily driver that delivers a more relaxed and rider-friendly ride.
Shape Overview:
The Essential Service is built around a blunt-tipped directional twin chassis that has been specially designed to reduce weight at the tips without compromising its versatile performance. Cutting tip weight to a minimum reduces the board’s swing weight. The lower the swing weight, the more control you have when spinning as you cut down the inertia at the tips. However, even though the tips have that low swing weight, thanks to their fuller profile, you don’t lose any performance when riding chop and pow. Now, one of the things that you’ll notice when you ride the ES is just how solid and stable it is on edge. This stability is down to the Magne Traction sidecut, which places seven strategically located edge serrations along the length of the sidecut. These add extra traction points, ensuring you get unrivalled edge hold and control in even the iciest conditions.
Profile: C2 Camber
As the ES is about its versatility, Gnu uses their C2° hybrid Rocker/Camber profile. This advanced hybrid profile places mild rocker between your feet with powerful cambers to the tip and tail. This versatile hybrid camber delivers the perfect balance of power, pop and precision while enhancing float in deep pow. Also, those cambers work perfectly with the Magna Traction sidecut to give a stable and confidence-inspiring feeling through the turn.
Construction
Internally the Essential Service is built around Gnu’s G-Lite-2 construction. Heading this up is the lightweight G-Lite 2 core. Manufactured from 70% aspen and 30% paulownia, it delivers the perfect combination of poppy flex and lightweight. Gnu adds structural layers formed from a combination of torsionally stiff tri-ax glass and playful bi-ax glass. These layers allow the designers to dial in the perfect balance of torsional flex with a poppy and dynamic ride.
